Notah Begay 3: From Native American Roots to Junior Golf Champion Maker

Notah Begay III is more than just a name in the world of golf; he’s a symbol of resilience, dedication, and the power of opportunity. With roots deeply embedded in the Navajo, San Felipe, and Isleta peoples, Begay’s journey is one of breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations of golfers. His connection to his Native American heritage remains a cornerstone of his identity and his work.

A Shared Path with Tiger Woods

Begay’s collegiate career at Stanford University saw him not only excel on the golf course but also form a lasting bond with another golfing legend, Tiger Woods. As teammates, they pushed each other to new heights, contributing to Stanford’s 1994 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship victory. This shared experience forged a unique connection between the two, one that has continued throughout their professional lives.

The Birth of the NB3 Junior Golf National Championship

Driven by a desire to create a more inclusive and accessible platform for junior golfers, Notah Begay III founded the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship (NB3JGNC). Recognizing the need to provide opportunities for young athletes from diverse backgrounds, Begay envisioned a championship where talent, not privilege, would determine success. The NB3JGNC has become a national stage, empowering junior golfers to showcase their skills and pursue their dreams. It has also become a platform to help bring awareness to his foundation, the NB3 foundation, and the work they do to improve the lives of Native American youth.
